Rape case: Cadila Pharma CMD appears before cops

Rajiv Modi, the chairman and managing director of city-based Cadila Pharmaceuticals, on Thursday appeared before Sola police station officials investigating a case of rape, molestation, and criminal intimidation against him filed by a Bulgarian woman who was her former employee. An FIR in this case was filed on Dec 31 following directives of the Gujarat high court.

Modi’s appearance before cops came a day after the Bulgarian woman’s petition in the Supreme Court seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the case was admitted.
Around 8 am on Thursday, Modi came to Sola police station with his lawyer. He was questioned by the investigators for nearly five hours.

According to officials, Rajiv Modi was allowed to leave on the condition that he would appear before the cops whenever called for investigation.

Around 8am on Thursday, Modi came to Sola police station with his lawyer. He was questioned by investigators for five hours. According to officials, he was allowed to leave on the condition that he appear before police whenever called for investigation. Modi reportedly told investigators that he was in Europe and the US for business purposes and returned to the city early on Thursday morning.

Sources privy to the developments said Modi denied all charges. He said he was never alone with the Bulgarian woman, who was part of his larger team taking care of his travel and other team members always accompanied them wherever he went. He said the complaint was lodged to defame him. Modi, however, said that neither he nor his staff members were approached by the woman for any extortion after the complaint. He said he always greeted her with folded hands.

Sola police inspector R H Solanki, said Modi was questioned on various aspects of the case. “Modi was issued two summonses by Sola police. We will examine the statement and are currently gathering evidence. If we get adequate evidence against him, Modi can be arrested,” he said.

Chirag Koradia, JCP (Sector I) of city police who is heading the SIT formed for the probe, said the questioning was based on the facts and contents of the complaint so far and further investigation is underway.

According to the case details, the Bulgarian woman joined Cadila Pharmaceuticals as flight attendant in Nov 2022 and was later appointed to Modi’s personal staff. According to her complaint, the incident in question took place in Feb 2023.

  1. I know Rajiv Modi Sir and have worked with Cadila Pharma twice in my career, Rajiv Sir can never ever indulge in such things, I am sure this is just either a political stunt or the famous way of extorting money from rich people by Bulgarian women.
    I stand by Rajiv Sir, he is professionally tough but a seasoned gentleman.

  2. I know Rajiv Modi since I had worked with Cadila Pharma for nearly 8 years. It is difficult to believe such charges on him.
